JERUSALEM, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Survival rates from invasive cancers in Israel have risen significantly over the years, according to a report released Wednesday by the Ministry of Health and the Israel Cancer Association.
According to the data, the five-year survival rate of invasive cancer types among those diagnosed in the period of 1996-2000, compared with those diagnosed in 2007-2011, increased from 56 percent to 67 percent among men and from 63 percent to 71 percent among women.
The figures also show that the survival of Israeli women with breast cancer, the most common type of cancer among women, increased from 85 percent to 89 percent.
The highest survival rate, 92 percent, was among women diagnosed at 50-74 years old, while a 90-percent survival rate was observed in the 20-49 age group.
In addition, the survival of Israeli men from prostate cancer, the most common cancer among men in Israel, has risen from 87 to 97 percent between the two periods.
Regarding lung cancer, a significant increase from 15 percent to 21 percent was observed in male patients, and from 23 percent to 33 percent in female patients during the periods studied.
