Ceasefire enables repair work to begin at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

MOSCOW, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- A localized ceasefire has been declared in the area of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), allowing repair work to begin on damaged energy infrastructure, Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom said on Friday.

Alexey Likhachev, director general of Rosatom, said the ceasefire took effect at 7:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) Friday, leading to the start of repair work on the plant's outdoor switchgear and the Ferosplavna-1 line.

The facilities were damaged on Feb. 10 by an alleged Ukrainian attack, and the repair work is expected to take at least a week, Likhachev said.

The ZNPP's operator said that the ceasefire was reached with the participation of International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi.

It added that the plant's electricity is supplied by the remaining Dniprovska power line, and the radiation situation remains normal. ■
